The next wave of AI in supply chains is agentic, and it’s already arriving!
Gartner describes the evolution of AI in three waves:
- Traditional AI: spots patterns, predicts outcomes, and optimizes predefined objectives like forecast accuracy. Anaplan Forecaster is a great application of traditional AI, and many companies are already realizing its value.
- Generative AI communicates, summarizes, and creates content that helps people understand complexity faster. Anaplan CoPlanner gives users a natural language interface to turn data into clear insights.
- Agentic AI takes a step further. It perceives changes in the environment, evaluates options, and helps determine the best next move to achieve a goal.
The real breakthrough begins in the third wave. This is where AI starts acting like a planning partner rather than a passive tool. That is exactly where Anaplan is heading with the Supply Chain Analyst.
At Bluecrux, we could not be more excited. This is where Anaplan’s AI vision becomes tangible: AI that goes beyond predicting the future to actively partner with people to shape it.
Evolution: traditional -> generative -> agentic
The Analyst Agents represent a major step in Anaplan’s evolution. After laying the groundwork with Forecaster for predictive accuracy and CoPlanner for conversational access, Anaplan is now entering the era of agentic AI, introducing intelligent, role-based assistants that combine real-time reasoning with scenario-based decision support.
These role-based agents, including Supply Chain Analyst, Finance Analyst, Sales Analyst and Workforce Planning Analyst, are built on Anaplan’s powerful calculation engine and data foundation. And because the agents are trained on decades of industry data, they embed the best-practice logic into every suggestion, ensuring planners benefit not only from automation, but from the collective experience of millions of real planning scenarios.
When the Supply Chain Analyst detects a capacity constraint or data anomaly, it can not only explain what happened and why, but also suggest possible resolutions and instantly model their impact through integrated scenario runs. This turns every insight into an actionable recommendation within a secure, explainable, and enterprise-grade environment.
Of course, transparency and trust are essential. Each recommendation from the agent includes its reasoning, data source, and confidence level, allowing planners to review, adjust, or accept in seconds.
What comes next: towards autonomous agents
The next phase of Anaplan’s roadmap will introduce autonomous agents that will proactively track your data, identify issues and suggest improvements automatically, including monitoring model health, detecting data quality issues, and monitoring anomalies.
The final phase of the roadmap will be Anaplan’s Agent Studio. It will allow anyone to develop custom agents, much like agents in the Microsoft environment, or GPTs within ChatGPT. Custom agents will unlock a new set of possibilities: specific solutions that are tailored to the unique processes and challenges of each business, enabling faster, smarter decisions and targeted automations.
The Bluecrux perspective: building an agentic value chain
At Bluecrux, we see Supply Chain Analyst as more than a new capability. It is a milestone in the evolution from data-driven towards decision-driven value chains.
As a co-innovation partner of Anaplan, we work side by side with the product teams to test and refine these agentic features in real-world scenarios. Our experts bring the supply chain depth that ensures these developments deliver measurable value by improving forecast agility and strengthening cross-functional collaboration.
While Supply Chain Analyst is still evolving, it already signals a major step forward in how AI can support planners in real time.
Collaborating with the Anaplan team to test their latest AI agents, I’ve seen how these innovations go beyond automating tasks, turning complexity into clarity by anticipating disruptions, optimizing decisions in real time, and opening new opportunities for strategic, cross-functional supply chain collaboration. They enable planners to focus on strategy instead of firefighting.
Many organizations are still building their path toward advanced AI adoption, reflecting the current stage of maturity across most supply chain organizations. At Bluecrux, we guide companies on this journey, ensuring that the right foundations such as data quality, process alignment, and governance are in place to capture value as these next-generation capabilities become available
Anaplan x Bluecrux: Innovating together
True innovation happens when technology meets real-world expertise. As a two-time Anaplan Innovator of the Year, Bluecrux does more than implement Anaplan – we co-innovate. Working hand in hand with Anaplan’s product team, we test and refine new features using real industry insights. Our deep supply chain expertise turns Anaplan’s vision into practical solutions and keeps us close to the platform’s evolution.
At Bluecrux, we can help you to go beyond the buzz to design a fit-for-purpose AI roadmap that matches your maturity and ambition. It starts with strengthening the foundation – data, processes, organization – and continues with choosing a future-proof planning tool like Anaplan that sees AI as a tool to make planning simpler, smarter and more transparent.
